On Sunday 4 June Japan Museum SieboldHuis will host the Tenth Annual Edition of the festive Japan Market from 12.00 noon till 17.00. The Japan Market is traditionally held to commemorate the visit of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan to Leiden in in 2000.
At 12.00 noon Kris Schiermeier, Director of the Japan Museum SieboldHuis, will open the Japan Markt together with the Mayor of Leiden Henri Lenferink and the Ambassador of Japan Hiroshi Inomata.
The market will extend from Japan Museum SieboldHuis on the Rapenburg to the Hortus Botanicus covering over half a kilometer on Leiden’s most prominent street. A wide variety of goods will be displayed on market stands along the designated route ranging from art, clothing, gadgets, books and culinary products.
But that’s not all! Throughout the day other activities will include a special performance by Soulken Danjo from Japan in the Panorama Room, a talk by Casper Faassen on his works exhibited on the first floor of the museum and across the waters of the Rapenburg in the Tempelzaal of the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden demonstrations of Japanese martial arts will be held. Last but not least experience the energetic festival dance of Raiden Yosakoi!
